A tax parcel search allows a user to locate a real estate tax parcel using one or more search filters. A search will return the user zero or more candidate results that satisfy the search criteria. The user may then choose a specific real estate tax parcel in order to investigate it in more detail.

TAX PARCEL SEARCH FILTERS

The search filters available in a real estate tax parcel search are:

  • Municipality: This represents the municipality to which the tax parcel belongs. Set this filter to <All Municipalities> in order to apply any other search filters as part of a county-wide search.
  • USPLS: The USPLS locations specify the Section, Town, Range and, sometimes the Quarter-Quarter or Government Lots associated with tax parcels.
  • Parcel ID: A sequence of letters, numbers, and sometimes special characters used to concisely represent a real estate tax parcel instead of using its full legal description. Parcel numbers are always unique within a municipality and may be unique across the entire county (depends on the county). A partial parcel number can be typed and the system will execute a wild card search against the parcel number (see example below). NOTE: Some counties assign an Alternate Parcel Number ID, which may also be searched within this field.
  • First Name: The first name of any owner associated with the land parcel. If a parcel has several owners, and any one of these owners' first name matches that of the first name provided, the portal will return the parcel in the search results. Typically this search filter is used in conjunction with the Last Name filter.
  • Last Name: The last name of any owner associated with the land parcel. If a parcel has several owners and any one of these owners' last name matches that of the last name provided, the portal will return the parcel in the search results.  NOTE: Some counties may choose not to make the First Name or Last Name search filters available to public users.
  • Street Number: The street number portion of the physical address (i.e. site address) associated with the land parcel.
  • Street Name: The street name portion of the physical address (i.e. site address) associated with the land parcel. When entering the street name, do not enter any street prefixes, street suffixes, or street type. For instance, if you are searching for "W Main St", just enter "Main". To search on "County Highway J", enter "County Highway J".
  • Mailing Address: The address to which the tax bill for a parcel will be delivered. This may not be the current resident or even the current owner of the property.
  • Sort By: Results may be sorted by Parcel Id, Owner(s) or Addresses (Site Address)

TAX PARCEL SEARCH

When performing a search, the user should provide a search value for at least one of the filters. In addition, the user can provide values for multiple search filters at the same time in order to limit the results of the search. For example, specifying only the municipality as a search criteria will produce many more search results than if a user provides values for the municipality and last name filters simultaneously.

NOTE: Searching by municipality and a valid parcel number within that municipality will always produce a single result. This is because a municipal code in conjunction with its parcel number is always unique within the county.

TAX PARCEL SEARCH RESULTS

The search results will display the following information for parcels that satisfy the search filters provided:

  • Parcel ID: A sequence of letters, numbers, and sometimes special characters used to concisely represent a real estate tax parcel, instead of using its full legal description. Parcel numbers are always unique within a municipality and may be unique across the entire county (depends on the county). NOTE: Some counties assign an Alternate Parcel Number ID, which may also be searched within this field.
  • Owner Name(s): The name(s) associated with the tax parcel. The presence of a slider bar indicates that there are more than two owners. Use the slider to toggle the owner names.
  • Site Address(es): The street number portion of the physical address (i.e. site address) associated with the land parcel.
  • Tax Years: Represents the years for which a parcel received a tax bill.

Depending on the type and number of search filters a user provides to a search, the number of results may fit on a single result, or they may be distributed over a number of result pages. A user may choose the maximum number of results by selecting a number from the Records/Page selection list. Consider the following example:

In this example, a search by a partial parcel number is being performed across the Town of Bergen. The sorting and paging options specify twenty (20) results be listed per page and that each page be sorted in ascending order by the Parcel column. The user may navigate to a different page of results by clicking on a paging control link. The user may navigate to view the specific tax parcel details by clicking on a specific parcel number in the Parcel column. The currently displayed page of results can be printed by clicking the Print Results link.

NOTE: Using the Print Results link only prints the page you are on (not all search result pages).
